New Heavy D Memorial Website Created, Public Wake This Thursday
Fans of the late rapper Dwight \"Heavy D\" Myers can now pay their respects online and in person. A memorial website has been set up in his honor at rememberheavyd.com, where visitors can find information about his life, career, and legacy. The site also includes details on how to donate to the Heavy D and Xea Myers Fund, which has been established in support of Heavy D's daughter.
A public wake will be held in Mt. Vernon, New York on Thursday, Nov. 17, from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church. A funeral for the Jamaica-born, Queens-raised musician-turned-actor is scheduled for the following day, Nov. 18, also at the Grace Baptist Church. P. Diddy and Rev. Al Sharpton are expected to speak at the service.
Heavy D died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 8 outside of his Beverly Hills home at the age of 44. An autopsy proved to be inconclusive with toxicology results pending. Reports cited that Heavy D was experiencing difficulty breathing and collapsed. It could be several weeks before the cause of death is revealed.
Heavy D was best known as the leader of the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, which had hits such as \"Now That We Found Love\" and \"The Overweight Lover's in the House\". He also had a successful solo career and appeared in movies and TV shows such as The Cider House Rules and Boston Public. He performed at the BET Hip Hop Awards in October, his first live performance in 15 years.
His family released a statement saying: \"Hev had great love for his family and friends; he was a kind and giving spirit who extended and shared himself with everyone who crossed his path. He had a heart of gold, was approachable, very personable and gave of himself willingly and unconditionally. Though Hev will most notably be remembered for his work both behind-the-scenes and in the forefront, he will always be remembered by us as a generous soul who remained humble and unselfish till his final days.\"
