Plot:Murthy's (R. Madhavan) obsession with Kannathil Muthamittal, a 1990's Tamil political movie, has been his life for the past eight years. It is his favourite movie and he watches it over and over again. But Kannathil Muthamittal actor Sivakumar's (J. D. Chakravarthy) widow, Anandhi (Nandita Das) appears in the movie and threatens to sue him for copying the movie and releasing it in theatres. Murthy learns that this is all a ploy to stop him from releasing the movie. He is determined to get the movie released, even if it means going to jail. But when he is about to get a court order for the release of the movie, his life is turned upside down by Anandhi and her two daughters' (Simran and Prakash Raj) police inspector husband (P. S. Keerthana), who also happens to be the brother of one of the main characters in the movie, much to the chagrin of his wife. The family chain of events turns into a crazy journey that is filled with comical twists and turns as Murthy's obsession with the film and his love for Anandhi, who he has fallen for, unfolds.
