Unfortunately the current version of iMovie at the Apple store 10.1.3 only installs on El Capitan or higher and the iMovie section of the website only holds a list of updates to download, not the actual software base dmg:
I went to the App Store's Purchases section and downloaded from there. Indeed I got a message saying that the latest version was not compatible but that it would download the last compatible version considering my OS.
The best version of iMovie was iMovie 6HD. Sadly Apple no longer offers a download for this, but you could get it by searching eBay or Amazon for iLife version 6 which is still available on a DVD installer. Some sellers ask a lot as it is still popular, but IMO worth the money.
Trust me, you're not alone. Many people like you are searching the Internet for \"where can I download an old version of imovie\" or \"where to download iMovie for Catalina\", especially there are big changes on the new released iMovie, e.g. from iMovie '11 to iMovie 10. The reasons may include, \"my favorite feature has gone\", \"compatibility issue\", \"imovie not working\", or \"imovie can't import my video\", etc.
In some cases, you actually don't need to download and install an old version of iMovie. But sometimes, the old version is the only solution. This article will share with you where to download an old version of iMovie safely if necessary.
Before downloading the standalone dmg file of iMovie, you should try to upgrade iMovie to the last compatible version automatically on Mac's App Store. This will work if you have or ever have had iMovie 10 on your Mac. Here is how: drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the Trash, but do not empty the Trash. Then launch your App Store, login your account, open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar, then find iMovie and try to redownload iMovie to your Mac. If the following dialogue appears, click Download to start installing the last compatible version of iMovie to your Mac. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app back to the Applications folder.
If iMovie isn't in your purchase history, there may be a little trick you can use, if you can just get temporary access to a newer Mac with the new macOS. Log into the App Store with your Apple ID and \"purchase\" iMovie there. Now back to your old Mac to check your purchase history, and you can download the older version of iMovie for your old Mac. If you can't access another Mac, you could also try Virtual Machines (installed another macOS with the help of Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox) to install a copy of macOS to buy the iMovie app, then download the older version of iMovie from the App Store on your Mac.
App Store for Mac is the right place to download iMovie. However, it doesn't work sometimes. If so, you would need to visit somewhere on the internet to download an old version of iMovie. Well-know websites are preferred. But these sites are unauthorized by Apple, so be careful because the downloaded files might carry malware. Don't forget to turn on your firewall and malware fighter. Below are websites you could download old versions of iMovie from non-Apple sites. For iMovie torrent file, you need a torrent client like BitTorrent to download iMovie dmg file for installing on Mac.
For more iMovie earlier versions, please google \"iMovie old versions\" to find a place to download the iMovie installation package. If you're using Windows, an iMovie for Windows alternative is what you need.

Do you still remember the exact version of iMovie running on your Mac Try to google the download link if so. This page includes links to some old versions of iMovie. Maybe you could try iMovie 10.1.10 or 10.1.12 on your macOS 10.14.
Apple released iMovie HD 6 as a free download to those who had purchased iMovie '08.[17] However, in response to the release of the subsequent newer version of iMovie '09, Apple removed the download in late January 2009[18] while also reducing the $299 price tag for Final Cut Express to $199.[19] Several of the features removed from iMovie '08 that were previously included with iMovie HD 6 have been restored into iMovie '09 and, more recently, iMovie '11.[3]
This is an article about where to find and download old Mac software, not an article about which computer processor architectures can run which versions of system software. Please correct your comment.
Is this a re-download or a new purchase iMovie is not a free app, despite the fact that Apple bundles it with new hardware. When you set up a new Mac for the first time (if I remember correctly), you are prompted to add the bundled apps to an iCloud account. If you try to download from some other account, it will have to be purchased. Perhaps the ability to install the most-recent-compatible version only applies to reinstallations and not new purchases.
If you have found that you are indeed using an old version of the app, you need to get the app updated to the latest version from your Mac App Store. It is free and easy to do so and the following shows how.
iMovie is free for anyone who owns a Mac. Plus, the iOS version is free for all iPhone and iPad owners. The software targets consumers who want to quickly create videos with footage stored in their Photos library. To facilitate this, iMovie uses a simplified timeline editor that doesn't allow for multi-track editing.
The Studio version of DaVinci Resolve costs $295, but the basic version is completely free, which still includes the same high-quality image-processing abilities as the pricier version. You get a powerful video editor, some of the best color correction capabilities around, and even support for external hardware panels to enable faster editing.
Lightworks is one of the most powerful apps on this list. We'd happily recommend it above all the other packages if it wasn't so restrictive for free users. The free version includes video effects, multi-cam editing, titling, and the usual multi-layered timeline approach you'd expect from a comprehensive editor.
HitFilm Express is a free video editing software for Mac and Windows machines. It comes in two versions. We'll focus on the free version, HitFilm Express, which you can use to manage all your basic editing needs.
Even better, it also offers VFX editing. But what if the free version doesn't have a particular functionality Yeah, they've got that covered, too. You can buy the additional features right from the home workspace. So, if this free editing software for Mac piques your interest, you can find out more about it from HitFilm's website.
Updating your Mac will not update iMovie. It is possible that you are using an old version of iMovie. It is important to keep iMovie up to date. Updating is really simple. Go to the Apple Store on your Mac and click Updates. If you see iMovie, click the Update button to download and install the update.
my niece was having the same issue, if you download and install SoundFlower ( this allows you to record internal audio in quicktime) then change your sound settings output AND Input to Soundflower (2ch) open QT, select New Screen Record, next to the record button there is an arrow, click and select SoundFlower(2ch) record full screen, and then open imovie, and playback at full screen. be sure to set the volume to only 30% or so otherwise you will get an Echo.after the record, change you system sound setting back to Internal ( otherwise you wont hear anything) and the in QuickTime go to Edit>Trim and trim off the top and end that you dont want of the set up. this was the work around I got to work for her.
If you purchased a Mac on or after October 20, 2010, you get iMovie for free from the Mac App Store. Essentially, that means the app is free on nearly all Macs in use. The latest version requires macOS 11.5.1 or later and requires 2.6GB of storage. In testing for this review, I installed it on a MacBook Air with an Apple Silicon M1 CPU and 8GB RAM.
i've looked at several tutorials to download an earlier version of photoshop, but these options do not show up for me. I have gone into my preferences in the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app and selected \"show older apps\", and some older apps did come up, but it still won't let me see the older versions of photoshop.
Direct Download Links for Creative Cloud -please note that Adobe may remove the links to download older versions at any time-so IF you find what you need, but sure to copy the download to an external drive
hey! i used a combination of two replies to this post to get adobe working on my laptop. first, like Just Shoot Me Said (sorry, dont know how to link) you can download newer versions of OS if you go directly to the Apple Mac Store. (I have marked this as the correct answer so you should be able to find it)In addition, I also downloaded older versions of the apps instead of the current versions using this link: provided by John T Smith (I listed this as a correc 153554b96e
