Quick tip: You can lock your iPhone's screen in a particular rotation to ensure it doesn't change even if you move the phone in your hand. Rotate the device into the orientation you want and then turn on the orientation lock by tapping on the Screen Rotation Lock icon in Control Center.
Not all apps support screen rotation. Some apps only work in portrait or landscape mode. This is particularly true of some games and video apps. For those apps, your screen rotation settings don't matter. The app will only only display in the orientation it supports.
If you're positive an app supports screen rotation and it isn't working on your iPhone after you activate the feature, restart the device. If rotation still won't work, your phone may have a broken accelerometer and needs to go to an Apple Store for repair.
If you would like to view your iPhone's photos or notes on a horizontal plane, don't worry--you can easily switch your phone from the standard \"Portrait\" mode to a \"Landscape\" presentation (which displays horizontally) by disabling your phone's rotation lock! The Landscape option is ideal for watching wide-screen videos in full-screen mode, typing long messages, and so on; be aware, though, that some apps and locations--such as the \"Clock\" app or the Home screen--don't support screen rotation.
This has changed with recent (2015) updates. On the home screen slide your thumb from the bottom up to get to the quick settings. On the top right you should see the rotation lock. Tap it and rotate should work again.
Yes i am using iphone 8. Though its a 4 year old model but still working great and getting ios 16 update. But after ios 16 there is a specific rotation bug with Antutu appoication. I enabled disabled the auto rotation but the app is running with portrait mode and then close in the middle of benchmark test.Dont know how to resolve it
In this context: iOS 16 seems to have introduced a new behavior in which the gyroscopes of many (all) iPhone models stay on despite the display is being turned off which leads to frequent unexpected screen rotations after unlocking the phone.
This behavior might be related to the new always-on display of iPhone 14 Pro, but in any case I find it super annoying and I can't quite understand why. - Up until iOS 15 the phone didn't care about its orientation while the display was turned off, now I have my last app in landscape n times a day after unlocking the phone.
If u swipe up from the top of the screen with 3 fingers you'll find the control center. Note: You may need 2 do this a few times. Once you're there just swipe left or right until u get to that setting. VO. will say `orientatiintation locked or unlocked` U can toggle your setting 4 that there.

If the home screen won't rotate, and Screen Rotation Lock isn't on, Display Zoom could be interfering with it. This is option enlarges the icons and text on these devices' larger screens to make them easier to see. If you can't rotate the home screen on these devices, disable Display Zoom by click Tap Settings > Tap Display & Brightness > Tap View in the Display Zoom section > Tap Standard > Tap Set. A padlock with a circular arrow around it in the status bar at the top the screen means that the phone is locked in portrait mode and will not rotate to landscape mode. This can be turned on and off by double clicking home so that your open apps are displayed. Then, swipe these icons to the right until your iPod controls appear, where you should see an icon with a circular arrow. This icon locks your screen rotation. Good luck and I hope this helps!
I was asked to update this answer because the method has been modified to something very similar with the advent of iOS 7. You now have to swipe up to bring up the control center and then click the lock/unlock icon on the top-right of the menu to engage/disengage the screen lock. (Thank you Miro & iFixers :-)

Everyone's been frustrated by how their phone handles auto-rotation at some point. Occasionally, your iPhone might not recognize that you've rotated it, leaving you with a less-than-optimal viewing experience.
It's easy to rotate videos from the Edit option in the Photos app on your iPhone. But not everyone keeps their videos in this app. Thankfully, some third-party apps on the App Store allow you to rotate your iPhone videos from portrait to landscape and vice-versa. One of the best video rotation apps on iOS is Video Rotate + Flip. It's free to use with ads, which you can remove with a one-time fee of $1.99.

There are many apps that work only with portrait or landscape mode and there is nothing wrong with screen rotation. However, if it does not work on other apps also, then move towards below steps to fix the problem.

If after trying out all above-mentioned methods fail to fix the problem for you then it could be a hardware problem with your iPhone. The screen rotation function is controlled by a sensor called accelerometer. Thus, in this case, you can contact Apple or can visit nearby Apple store for fixing the problem.
