How to Use the Eheim Professional 2 2026 External Aquarium Filter

Setting Up the Filter

The hose with connectors
The filter media (Eheim Mech, Eheim Substrat Pro, and Eheim Carbon Pad)
The power cord with plug
Follow these steps to set up the filter:
Place the filter canister on a stable surface near the aquarium. Make sure there is enough space for the hoses and the power cord.
Open the pump head by turning it counterclockwise and lifting it up. Remove the filter baskets and rinse them under running water.
Fill the filter baskets with the filter media according to the instructions in the manual[^1^]. Place them back into the filter canister.
Close the pump head by aligning it with the canister and turning it clockwise until it clicks.
Attach the inlet and outlet pipes to the adapter using the connectors. Adjust the length of the pipes according to your aquarium size.
Fix the inlet pipe near the bottom of the aquarium and the outlet pipe near the surface using the suction cups. Attach the spray bar to the outlet pipe using the suction cups.
Cut the hose into two pieces of equal length. Connect one end of each hose to the adapter and secure them with hose clips. Connect the other end of each hose to the corresponding pipe.

Operating the Filter
Follow these steps to operate the filter:
To start the filter, press down on the self-priming button several times until water flows into the hose. The filter will fill up with water and start running automatically.
To adjust the water flow rate, turn the flow control knob on top of the pump head. You can also adjust the direction of the spray bar by rotating it.
To monitor the water temperature, check the display on top of the pump head. The thermo control function will keep the water temperature within a range of +/- 2ÂC from your desired setting.
To stop or disconnect the filter, unplug it from the electrical outlet. Close both valves on
the adapter by turning them 90 degrees. You can now remove
the hoses from
the adapter without spilling water.
Maintaining
the Filter

to maintain

Clean
the filter every 3-6 months or when
the water flow rate decreases significantly. To clean
the filter, follow
the steps for stopping or disconnecting
the filter. Then open
the pump head and remove
the filter baskets. Rinse
the filter media under running water and replace
them if necessary. Clean
the pump head and
the canister with a soft brush or cloth. Reassemble
the filter and follow
the steps for starting
the filter.
Replace
the carbon pad every month or when
it becomes discolored or saturated with organic matter. To replace
the carbon pad, follow
the steps for stopping or disconnecting
the filter. Then open
the pump head and remove
the top filter basket. Replace
the carbon pad with a new one and put back
